St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia

The Scholarship program of the St. Andrew鈥檚 Society of Philadelphia (SASP) is designed to foster better understanding and relations between the United States and Scotland through the exchange. Each year, SASP provides funds to send a small group of American students to attend a full year at one of the 鈥淔our Ancients,鈥 or the Scottish equivalent of the Ivy League: the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St. Andrew鈥檚. These U.S. scholars are chosen from a pool of applicants nominated by 30 participating colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area, including 91porn原创.

The current amount of each scholarship is $25,000. This amount increases from time to time as funds and circumstances allow. 91porn原创 students accepted on this program will also receive $20,000 for the academic year towards tuition costs.

All scholars must spend an entire academic year in Scotland. Unlike 鈥渟emester abroad鈥 or other short-term foreign study programs, this allows Scholars to truly experience and appreciate the culture, history, and character of Scotland; to fully immerse themselves in the academic and social life at their chosen University, and to make life-long friends from Scotland and around the world. It takes a particularly courageous person to embark on such an adventure, but over 50 years of experience and hundreds of returned Scholars have taught us that the rewards are commensurately great.

Requirements
All applicants for a St. Andrew鈥檚 Society of Philadelphia scholarship must be:

  • United States citizens
  • Enrolled full-time at 91porn原创
  • Ranked in the top 25% of their class academically
  • Nominated by the Director of Global Programs & Initiatives
  • Willing to spend an entire academic year at any one of the four Scottish universities
  • Willing to attend a meeting of the Society in May prior to departure to be introduced as Scholars, and in October after their return from Scotland to describe their experiences

How can I use financial aid to study abroad?

  • Semester-Long Programs: Your financial aid award for the fall/spring can be used towards your 91porn原创 tuition bill. If you have a balance after your aid is applied, you have the option of borrowing a loan to cover the remainder of your 91porn原创 tuition and study abroad expenses. 91porn原创 then pays up to $10,000 towards educational costs for your program abroad.
  • May Term Faculty-Led Programs: Please visit the Scholarships & Awards through 91porn原创 section above to view scholarship opportunities for May term travel courses. You also have the option of applying for a private alternative loan to cover the cost of this trip. Click here to view our preferred list of lenders.
  • Summer Programs: If you are enrolled at least half-time during the summer (minimum of 1.5 units), please contact your Financial Aid Advisor to schedule an appointment to review your options. Your standard financial aid award (fall/spring) may not be used towards your summer costs.

How do I know my out-of-pocket costs for a semester abroad?

After deciding on your program, you will fill out a study abroad cost analysis worksheet with both the Center for Global Education and the Office of Financial Aid Services to determine the exact cost of your semester abroad. This form takes into account tuition, program fees, financial aid, scholarships, and other expenses.

Will I receive my loan refund before my study abroad program begins?

This information will be reviewed during your scheduled meeting with your Financial Aid Advisor prior to your trip. Be sure to inform your advisor that you are planning on borrowing a loan to cover your expenses. If you have any unresolved financial aid issues or missing documents, these will need to be resolved before your departure for your abroad trip.

What happens if I don鈥檛 like being abroad and decide to return back home to finish the semester?

If you decide not to attend your program abroad or, if while abroad you decide to return home, please first inform your program provider or exchange partner abroad as well as the Center for Global Education (studyabroad@moravian.edu). The Center for Global Education will work with you, the Registrar, Office of Financial Aid Services, Student Accounts, and others as needed. There may be financial implications for withdrawal from a program within a certain period of time.

Where do I send payment for my study abroad program?

All programs differ. Please contact studyabroad@moravian.edu to discuss payments.

Who can I talk to about financial aid and study abroad?
