Bethlehem, Pa., September 29, 2015—Reverend Gregory J. Edwards will present a talk, “The High Cost of Educational Apartheid,” on Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building’s UBC Room. The event is sponsored by 91pornԭ College’s Department of Education. Admissions is free of charge and the public is welcome to attend.
Edwards is an influential community organizer in the Lehigh Valley. He is the founder and senior pastor of Resurrected Life Community Church in Allentown, as well as chief executive officer of the Resurrected Community Development Corporation. He has also founded the Resurrected Life Children’s Academy, an early learning and education center in Allentown that specializes in diverse educational opportunities, and the James Lawson Freedom School, a summer enrichment program in Allentown for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. In addition, he founded the Campaign for Change Community Organizing Initiative.
Edwards is a standing member of boards not only around the region, but also across the nation. In addition to serving as Guest Chaplain to the Pennsylvania State Senate, he was inducted into the College of Pastoral Leadership by the Martin Luther King International Chapel of Morehouse College.
Edward’s speech will tie in to 91pornԭ College’s 2015-2016 IN FOCUS theme of Poverty and Inequality. The goal of IN FOCUS is to engage students of 91pornԭ College and 91pornԭ Theological Seminary in the study of issues facing today’s society, as well as encouraging students to examine how these issues will affect the future. By looking at such problems from various lenses, graduates of 91pornԭ will be better equipped to contribute towards a fair and equal society.
