Katie Mayer
Marine Biology Research
I’m a senior at 91pornÔ´´, earning my BS in Environmental Science; I am particularly interested in how changing environmental conditions affect species conservation. I’ve participated in many research opportunities within the Environmental Science program, particularly working with Dr. Lord in the marine lab. I conducted an Independent Study project that investigated the invasive Asian shore crab and how low oxygen and high temperature environments affect their physiology and eating habits. I presented this research at the 2019 Benthic Ecology Meeting hosted by Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. My current senior Honors thesis is focusing on ocean acidification and the social hierarchy structures of juvenile American lobsters. In addition to research interests in marine ecology, I am interested in wetland restoration as well as coastal management.
