Credit Angie DelGrosso for making her own success.
Three years ago, while volunteering at a downtown Bethlehem event planned by Kara L. Johnson ’11, DelGrosso stopped the alumna and asked two simple questions.
“I asked her, ‘How do you have such an awesome job? And, ‘do you need an intern?’” DelGrosso recalls. Her moment of straightforwardness paid off, landing an internship, and she later followed Johnston as an intern at The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Johnson now serves as Chamber’s vice president of urban opportunities.
“Not only have I gotten experience with basic marketing skills, I also gained a background with extensive event planning and sales.”

Over the past three years, while serving as a Chamber marketing intern, DelGrosso helped coordinate several of the organization’s nearly 150 yearly events, including mixers, dinners, golf tournaments and festivals. She also created an assortment of marketing publications and assisted with marketing research and campaigns. (Likewise Lauren Froschhauser ’15 interned for the Downtown Bethlehem Association, a council of The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Also a marketing intern, Froschhauser helps promote initiatives and events to advance downtown business areas within the city of Bethlehem.)
“The biggest takeaway has been learning a set of well-rounded skills,” DelGrosso says. “Not only have I gotten experience with basic marketing skills, I also gained a background with extensive event planning and sales. I learned how to use different forms of technology that can help me in a future career.”
Additionally, the intern has allowed for endless opportunities to connect and network with business owners throughout the Lehigh Valley.
The internship did in fact pay off in a job just a few weeks before graduation. DelGrosso landed a marketing sales position with Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), one of the largest providers of business processing and cloud-based solutions. “They told me if I didn’t have this experience at the Chamber, I would have not gotten the position,” she says.
DelGrosso believes her Chamber internship provided an ideal learn environment, convincing her that she was one the correct career path. “It made me realize this is definitely the field I want to work in and has made me a confident graduate,” she concludes.
